As a special district, Novato Sanitary District is
an independent local agency with a publicly elected board of five
directors. The District currently serves about 60,000 residents.
The District maintains 200 miles of sewer collection
system, two wastewater treatment facilities, and an irrigation system
for 820 acres of pastureland. The District also administers the
solid waste disposal franchise for the Novato area that includes
garbage collection, curbside recycling, and household hazardous
waste collection.
Novato Sanitary District has been serving the public
since its inception on October 5, 1925. The Board of Directors employs
a fulltime staff of 26. The Board of Directors meet the 2nd and
4th Monday of each month at the Administration Building at 500 Davidson
Avenue, Novato.
