It is easy to think that once something is washed down the drain
it is gone for good. Unfortunately, that is not true.
There are many common hazardous wastes that you should dispose
of properly. On the Hazardous Waste page
you'll find hazardous items and the proper way to dispose of them.
Kitchen grease and oil will stick around and clog your plumbing
and our sewers. What can a homeowner do to prevent kitchen grease
blockages in their sewer?
-
Don't pour grease or oil into any sink or toilet.
-
Do pour grease or oil into a jar with a lid and put the sealed
container into the trash for disposal.
-
Do wipe greasy pots and dishes with paper towels before washing
them in a dishwasher or at the sink.
Just by following these tips, you can prevent costly grease blockages
in your own plumbing system and help Novato Sanitary District to
reduce sewer system overflows, backups, and maintenance costs. Fats,
oils, and greases aren't just bad for your arteries; they are bad
for our collection system too.
